The story (Luke 2:6–7)
When Mary and Joseph finally reached Bethlehem, the town was packed with visitors who had come to be counted. Every guest room was already full, and there was nowhere for them to stay. While they were there, the time came for Mary's baby to be born. Mary wrapped baby Jesus in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, a box where animals eat their food, because there was no room for them in the guest room.
